Founded in 1986, Family Kitchen serves meals 7 days a week and over 20,000 meals a month across Bend, Sisters, and Redmond to diners, various shelters, camps, and low-income families.
About the role:
On the precipice of a new chapter of growth, Family Kitchen is seeking its next leader to take its mission of addressing food insecurity in Central Oregon to new levels of impact. A well established name in the Central Oregon community, Family Kitchen has recently obtained certified 501(c)3 status and will be seeking a new primary operating location by 2025. The Executive Director will lead the charge to identify Family Kitchen’s new home, build and lead the execution of a strategic fundraising roadmap, and explore expansion opportunities to increase impact.

Essential Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement the Family Kitchen vision and strategic plan to fulfill Family Kitchen’s mission of providing nutritious meals to anyone in need in a safe and caring environment. This includes working in partnership with the Board of Directors to maximize impact and organizational health.
- Create, maintain, and regularly report to the Board a fundraising plan to meet the budgetary goals for Family Kitchen.
- Collaborate with local organizations, government agencies, and various care providers to drive positive outcomes for diners and the organization at large.
- Act as principal spokesperson for the organization among key community stakeholders to increase visibility, credibility, and mission awareness.
- Create and oversee the execution and effectiveness of community partnership contracts and MOUs.
- Foster a work environment that attracts, retains, and supports high-quality staff, focusing on staff empowerment and morale.
- Ensure the Operations Manager has the appropriate support and guidance to hire, retain, and effectively manage the team.
- Continuously improve programs, policies, and organizational culture.
- In alignment with the Board financial committee and Treasurer, manage the organization's financial strategy that ensures sustainability, healthy cash flow, and adequate reserves.
- Ensure adequate internal controls
- Oversee and maintain donor/gift databases and reporting mechanisms.
- Explore and implement a diversified funding strategy that includes foundations, events, individual, corporate giving and other innovative sources.
- Continuously prospect, cultivate, and engage individual donors.
- Identify grant opportunities and steward relationships with foundation officers and local businesses. Manage the end to end grant writing and submission process.
- Act as the primary project planner for fundraising events. This includes setting vision and goals to maximize event ROI, developing a comprehensive event plan, coordinating event activities, managing event marketing and communications, and overseeing volunteers.
- Drive awareness of Family Kitchen, in Central Oregon and beyond, through various campaigns and events to raise mission awareness and encourage volunteer and donor engagement.
- In partnership with the Operations Manager, build and execute strategy and procedures to ensure Family Kitchen operations are scalable, safe, and compliant with Oregon’s food safety regulations and quality standards.
- Ensure the long-term scalability and success of all physical locations.
- Oversee the strategy, plan and execution for significant operational projects, including the planned Bend location move.
- Ensure clear communication and alignment with the Board of Directors.
- Previous experience as an executive director or philanthropy professional overseeing a >$1M operating budget.
- A deep understanding of and commitment to Family Kitchen’s mission and values.
- Dedication to and expertise in working with disenfranchised communities.
- A creative thinker with high emotional intelligence, a flexible personality and strong resiliency in rapidly changing environments.
- Collaborative, communicative, and compassionate, and a natural problem-solving.
- Embrace a continuous learning approach to developing a cohesive team as well as to mobilizing, encouraging and building capacity of the staff.
- A strategic and organized leader with excellent communications skills.
- This role reports to the Family Kitchen Board of Directors
- Position: Full time, exempt
- Location: On-site, Bend, OR with travel to Sisters and Redmond and other locations, as needed
- Compensation: $85,000-$100,000 DOE; medical and dental benefits, retirement benefits, fitness stipend
